December 21 marks the longest night of the year. After that the sun slowly starts moving us towards more hours of light. Celebrating the solstice can be a meaningful way to connect with nature and honor the changing seasons.
Here are some ways to incorporate solstice celebrations into your holiday season:
Nature Walks: Spend time outdoors, appreciating the beauty of nature. Whether it's a walk in the woods or a stroll through a local park, connect with the natural world and reflect on the changing seasons.
Candlelight Ceremony: Host a candlelight ceremony to symbolize the return of the light. Light candles or a bonfire to honor the sun's rebirth and the lengthening days.
Seasonal Decorations: Decorate your home with natural elements like pine cones, evergreen branches, and holly. These symbols of nature can bring the spirit of the solstice into your living space.
Mindful Reflection: Take time for personal reflection and meditation. Consider what you want to let go of from the past year and what intentions you wish to set for the coming year.
Feasting and Sharing: Prepare a meal using seasonal ingredients and share it with loved ones. This can be a time to express gratitude and enjoy the abundance of the season.
Storytelling and Traditions: Share stories and traditions that honor the solstice. This could include myths, legends, or personal anecdotes that celebrate the themes of renewal and light.
Creative Expression: Engage in creative activities like crafting, writing, or music that resonate with the themes of the solstice. This can be a powerful way to express your connection to the season.
As some of you know, Todd and I honor Solstice by having family over to share a meal. Followed by a fire ceremony where we give thanks for all that has been this year and plant the seeds of our intention to germinate thru the winter. Then we sing songs of peace and dance around the fire.
By incorporating these practices, you can create a solstice celebration that is both meaningful and enriching, honoring the natural cycles and fostering a sense of connection and renewal.
In whatever tradition or faith that you honor the season ~ Todd and I wish you much love, light and peace.
Happy Holidays!!!
❤️ Laurie
